  • Things to talk about!

Last Friday night DH was being honored at a charity function. It was from a organization called UpLift. The work in the community to help kids with their schoolwork, homeless people and much more. The groups theme is Urban people living in faith and trust. Anyway, they were honoring about 5 Minister in the San Diego community for all their hard work for the people of San Diego. Well, DH was chosen to receive this honor for all the Chaplains in the Navy in the San Diego area. DH and I have never been to a Black Tie affair before, so it was wonderful experience for us. There was a social area before dinner, where severs walked around with ordurves and wine. Of course DH and I were too busy talking with all the high paying people that we did not even notice what kind of ordurves they were serving. The dinner for this was around $125.00 a plate, so as you can see DH and I were a little out of our comfort zone. I want so share some photo's with you that I took. I hope to have more photo's in a couple of weeks that they will share with us.

Back when our friend Merle was here for a visit. I stated that we went to the USS Midway for a tour. Well, the kids were able to sit in a jet.

This past Saturday a Fire Truck stopped down the street from our house because there was a little girl that was sick and the family called for help. Well, DS had gone down to see what was going on, like all kids and grownups would do. While sitting on the other side of the street, just watching, the Fire Chief walked over and started talking to DS. One of the questions that he asked DS was if he had ever rode in a Fire Truck? DS answer was no, but I have been in one. So the Fire Chief asked if DS would like to have a ride. DS jumped up and said sure! But he had to run back home to make sure it was ok with us. As he was running home he stopped and asked if his sister could come too. He said "Sure"! So, since I was in bed sick with a bad sinus headache, DH was able to take some photo's.

Now it is DS turn to climb out. They had a blast and thanked them for the trip around the block. The kids even stated that they got to put on head phones to listen to each other and to talk to each other. They talked about this all night.

Well, that is all for now. Until next time.....................................................

  • Always on the go!

It has been so busy the past week. There seems to always be something that is going on or needs to be done.

This weekend the kids had fun trick or treating. This is the first year for DH to trick or treat with the kids. We have always had a carnival at the church starting many years before the kids were even thought of. Then last year was the first time the kids got to experience going from house to house. But DH was deployed at the time and was not able to be with them. This year was different. We started off at the mall and then ended going around the neighborhood for about 1 1/2 hours. The kids got more candy then they needed. Here is a photo taken at the mall.

As you can see. DS's Guardian Angel did not do a very good job!

About a week ago, I told you that we had a friend visiting us from home in Oklahoma. We shared some good times at the beach, eating, touring the Midway and I wanted to share some photo's with you.

Nice way to end a day. Dinner over looking the bay.

Today I feel like I have been going nonstop. DS had a Orth apt this morning and then he had to go with me to the Dentist, so I could have two filling put in. Then DS had a Dr apt concerning medication (again) in the early afternoon. Got home just in time to pick DD up from school, and start working on dinner. Cleaned up kitchen, then finished a take home quiz that is due in the morning for my Algebra class. Then, I spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out what the my teacher for Biology was wanting for a discussion question that was due by midnight tonight. Thanks for a husband the loves Biology and was willing to explain some things to me, I was able to get this done. Now I am finishing up my blog and getting ready to head to bed. I have just as much to do tomorrow.

    Until next time..................................................................................

  • Just things I forgot to say.

I had told you all that we had a friend from Tulsa, come for a visit over the weekend. We had a lot of fun. Well, I stated that on Sat, we went and toured the Midway. This is a Carrier that has been retired and is now a museum. Well, I have been on my DH ships many times and thought they have a lot of stairs, but I did not know that a Carrier had so many stairs. Now these are not just stairs that you have in a building or your house. These stairs are VERY steep! The last part of the tour, we went up 4 flights of these steps to go to the Bridge. Now remember, when one goes up stairs, one has to come back down them also. By the end of the day, going up and down these stairs my knees were feeling the effects. I got down the first flight and thought OMG! I still have 3 more to go. I did make it. We were done and on our way home and my knees were thankful that I could finally sit down. Had no other problems until Sunday morning. My knees have been hurting me everyday since. Just a constant dull ache the 3 ibuprofen can't take the edge off of. But by the time it is time for me to head to bed, I am tossing and turning because my knees are hurting. I found some vicodin that I had in the Medicine drawer. I took 1 to help me sleep. It has been 3 days and the pain does not seem to be getting any better. I am hoping to get in to see the Dr before the end of this week. I will let you know what he says. So, as of this week, no exercising for me.

I just had to tell you about a sign I saw on our way home from the beach Sunday afternoon. We were stopped at a red light. There was a man walking down the line of cars holding one of those signs. You know, the ones that state they are a vet and has no job and needs money. Well, I had to take a second look at this sign. I wish I would have gotten a photo of it, but then that would have been rude. But this is what it stated:

WHY LIE, I AM A VET AND I NEED MONEY TO BUY A BEER. CAN YOU HELP!

We all enjoyed a good laugh with that sign. Nothing much has been going on around the house execpt for the kids going to school, DH going to work, and me working at home and doing school work. This week I started a new class: Essential Biology. This class even has a lab class to go with it. You ask, a lab class? How can you have a lab class when it is an Online class. Well, we have 3 different labs that we have to do. The first one is growing 12 bean plants under 4 different transparent plastic covers, clear, green, red, and blue, and how the covers effect the plant under the 4 different light conditions. We have 4 weeks of observations and data collecting, then finally a report. I will let you know about the others when we get closer to them. But in class this week we are learning about:

    • Identify the components of the scientific method
    • Distinguish between inductive and deductive reasoning
    • Comprehend the basic properties of water and its role in living organisms.

This class is going to be very interesting. Well, have to go pick up the kids from school. Until next time........

  • Another Update!

I was going to share some photo's in my blog today, but Xanga states that I have max out my upload for this month. I hop to upload the photo's next week.

We had another visiter this past week for just 4 days. A good friend  (Merle) came for a visit starting last Friday and left this past Monday. While he was here, we took him to the beach two days, went and toured the Midway downtown. My knees are still sore from that tour. He went to work with DH for a day and then when with him to his class on Thurs night, we took him down close to the boarder to a outlet mall just to show him the boarder, we gave him a tour of a couple of bases and he got to see several ships. I am hoping that next time he will be able to bring his wife with him.

Well, it is final. DH will be deploying this May for a Pacific Partnership w/ the USS Mercy. For those that do not know what this is: The U.S. Navy’s Pacific Partnership is a dedicated humanitarian and civic assistance mission conducted with and through partner nations, non-governmental organizations and other U.S. government agencies to execute a variety of HCA programs.

DH will be the Chaplin in charge of all the COMREL Projects as far as we know right now. We are talking about him being in charge of the organization, and overseeing of more COMREL's then he has ever done before. He will be gone for 5 to 6 months. I will keep you all updated when we know more.

I hope to post again the first of next week with photo's. It is chilly here today with a temp of 71 at about noon, but now it is 61. We are having Chili tonight for dinner. Until next time.............................

  • We are still alive and kicking/just busy

All I can ask is to please forgive me. I am so sorry that I have not updated my blog in so so so long. But here is what has been happening.

DH- has been busy with 13 ship. He was the Chaplain for DESRON 1 and DESRON 21. He has tried to visit all the ship each week with two days at the OMC for Duty. Today he told me that he is no longer has the Desron 1, but 4 ships have been added to the DESRON 21 making it a total of 7 Destroyers. DH has also been busy with school, both teaching Online Classes and taking a 9 month class in War and Strategy. He also help me with my papers by proof reading them, so that I can make correction before I submit them.

DS- What can I say about him. Well, he is all boy and he is trying really hard to enter his preteen years. Now, does that tell you anything? He just got done with his 2 week fall break and is back to school. We are still working with the he Dr. every month to get the right combination on medicine for him. It is just a long process. He also signed up for Flag Football that starts in December. He has wanted to play football and this is a good way for him to try it out. He will have a chance to try any position that he want. I will keep you updated.

DD- Our little princess. Well, she thinks she is a princess. She is ALL GIRL!!!!! She loves to dress up, dance around the house like this kids on High school musical, she also goes around singing like Henna Montana. She likes to put her hair up or on the side, put on jewelry and ask how pretty does she look. She did not get this from her Mama. I am so where like a girly girl. I am a jeans and tennis shoe type girl all the way. She is doing really well in school, and loves to go every day. She is starting to read up a storm and doing a great job on her spelling with very little study.

ME- I have just one more week for my Music Appreciation class and then on Oct 26, I start Biology. I am still taking Pre-Algebra at the local college and doing good. This is a better way to learn Algebra. I have not had no time to do any quilting in the past month and a half. I have 4 BOM Blocks that are waiting for me to work and post here. I have also taking up running. I started a program this week called Couch to 5K in 9 weeks. I just finished Week 1 this weeks. In week 1 is was a 5 min warmup, then 8 sets of 60 sec run and a 90 sec walk, then a 5 min cool-down. My first day was really good. About half way through I had to really work hard on catching my breath. The second day I did it, I was out of breath on the 3rd set and thought 60 sec was allot longer then 60 sec. My third day, went really well, I was able to do the hole thing without getting out of breath. I am really proud of myself. I will let you all know what week 2 holds on Monday. I want to be able to run a 5K by the first of the year and then I will go from there. I really needed to do something to get in shape and loose some body fat. Just to get a little more in shape, not to loose weight except for body fat. I just need some accountability.

Over the kids 2 week that the kids were on fall break DH parents came down for a much needed visit. DH was able to take leave from work and enjoy the time off. We were able to do allot of fun things together. We went fishing, drove around looking for the house that they lived in 43 years ago, I loved spending time with my mother-in-law just shopping, going to lunch, and just being able to sit around and talk. DH and his father decided that there are no fishing in the lakes around San Diego, but you can catch all kinds of fish off a pier. We caught fish like, Sea Bass, Croaker, Scorpion Fish, Stingray, and Mackerel. DH and I are now planning on getting year around fishing licence, so we can go back to the pier to do some more fishing. We also had a wonderful 4 day trip up to  Yosemite National Park  and then we stopped in LA to drive around Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Rodeo Drive. We all had a wonderful time and did not want it to end. DH parents left this past Wed to drive all the way back to Oklahoma.

Well, I do not want to take up your day reading, so I will do my best to keep you updated better. Until next time..................................................
